A determination method of rainfall type based on rainfall-induced slope instability

This work presents a determination method of rainfall types based on rainfall-induced slope instability to provide an effective approach for early warning different patterns failures/landslides. Firstly, 5808 scenarios are simulated with 11 kinds soil properties under 528 designed intensity-duration (I?D) conditions get the threshold curves failure and properties. Then through analysis when occurred, is classified into two types: short-duration—high-intensity (SH) type long-duration—low-intensity (LL) type. According results, it indicates that affect initiation failure, i.e., I?D will LL rainfall, while not be affected by change SH rainfall. In addition, results show classification does depend shear strength parameters (effective cohesion internal friction angle), although cause shift curve in two-dimensional (2D) plane. The findings this study benefit understanding effect mechanism initiation, which promote development system future considering identification types.
